Fresh off the farm

This summer we have the pleasure of welcoming two design/animation interns, Jordan Bohm and David Mizell. Hailing from Fort Hays State University, these seniors are taking their portfolios to the next level working directly on projects for local and national level clients. They are also taking part in the 2015 initiative and launch of Title Farm, a simple and fun way to create custom animated titles for photos, videos, commercials, presentations and more.

Favorite one liner?
"Treat Yo Self!" from Parks and Recreation

Who would you most like to have dinner with?
I'd love to have a cup of coffee with Neil Gaiman, he seems like a pretty cool guy and I'd love to pick his brain.

What do you like most about design and animation?
I was really drawn to animation as a kid. I loved watching the "behind the scenes" snippets on Pixar and Disney movies so I could see how it worked, where they got ideas, what techniques they used and so on. It's been amazing to finally work with motion design and I've been absolutely loving it so far!

When did you become interested in design?
When I was in high school. I loved, and still love, to illustrate and draw, and my teacher at the time, Lori Sprauge, suggested that I go into graphic design so I could move into digital work.

Who do you like to follow for design inspiration?
I follow a couple of typography and After Effects blogs. It's more illustration based, but I enjoy reading High Fructose to see their showcase artists and learn new techniques.

GET TO KNOW DAVID

Who would you most like to have dinner with?
I would love to have dinner with the Shigeru Miyamoto because he seems like an amazing person and is super interesting. Also he has made some of the top video games in Nintendo so after eating we could play Mario Kart or something.

What do you like most about design and animation?
I like the versatility of it. You can really create anything.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by the world and people around me.  Each person has a different and unique style and I am inspired by what they can accomplish and the different ways they finish a task. I am also inspired by nature and the way it is designed so beautifully and yet it does it without any thought.

What are your plans after graduation?
This is a tough one because there are so many things I want to do. First off get a job that has something to do with design and a dog named Glacier to keep me company. I don't know what avenue of design I would like to go into, but I really would love to illustrate children's books on the side.

When did you become interested in design?
I wasn't interested in design until I was a sophomore in college and a friend of mine just told me to take a graphics course to see how I would like it. Not only was it a new experience, it also challenged me more than the other art classes I was taking. Ever since then I have fallen in love with design.

Who do you like to follow for design inspiration?
I like to follow DKNG Studios just because they make some beautiful posters and their style is so full of detail and life.
